Capoeira is an art form which can be described in many ways. It encompasses Afro-Brazilian culture, art, music, language, and movement into one cohesive whole. The result is beautiful yet dangerous, smooth yet powerful. Capoeira is an incredible way to improve strength, especially core strength and the upper body but it is not about being athletic and tough but about being astute, incisive and perceptive of the opposition’s next move. The key objective of our project is to invest in the long-term health and well-being of our community in the UK through Capoeira, motivating children and adults to be active, to control their physical abilities to avoid violence and anger. To build up a strong and positive attitude towards the society they live in; to confront fears and anxieties. Our group provides equal opportunities for less abled children and people who are excluded for any reason. Our aim is to integrate people into a social circle surrounded by culture, music and physical skills in an atmosphere which everyone can feel like a family and enjoying learning.

WE MEET THE LAST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH AND WE HOLD CLUB MATCHES WHICH ARE OPEN TO GUESTS ON 1 WEDNESDAY EVENING, 1 SATURDAY NIGHT & 1 SUNDAY DAY TIME, WE ALSO HOLD AN ANNUAL OPEN USUALLY IN OCT/NOV AND A PRESENTATION NIGHT IN FEBRUARY. MEMBERSHIPS FEES ARE £20.00 INITIAL MEMBERSHIP AND FIRST YEAR THEREAFTER £15.00 PER YEAR. MATCH FEES ARE £5.00 WHICH BREAKS DOWN AS FOLLOWS: £3.00 TO THE CLUB, £1.50 PAID OUT BETWEEN 1ST 2ND & 3RD AND £0.50 PER ANGLER FOR THE HEAVIEST/LONGEST FISH. Pure Art BJJ provides high-quality Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes in Portsmouth, Hampshire, for complete beginners through to experienced practitioners. Our BJJ classes have a friendly, welcoming and supportive atmosphere, with students helping each other learn and improve. Teaching has a strong technical focus, with individual attention and detailed instruction to help every student understand not only how techniques work, but why they work. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that uses technique, leverage and positional control rather than relying primarily on size or strength. Training covers Gi BJJ, No Gi BJJ, takedowns, guard work, escapes, sweeps, positional control and submissions, alongside Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for self-defence and competition. BJJ has also played an important role in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), where its grappling and submission techniques have been extensively used in competition. An important part of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training is live resistance, allowing students to practise and develop their techniques against training partners who are actively defending and countering. Beginners are always welcome at Pure Art BJJ. We provide dedicated beginners BJJ classes specifically designed to give new students the best possible introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. No previous BJJ or martial arts experience is required, and our structured teaching helps beginners build strong technical foundations, learn the fundamental positions and techniques, and progress at their own pace in a friendly and supportive environment.
